Present Perfect Continuous

It describes an action started in the past and is still ongoing, with a focus on the duration or the process.

It is used to talk about:

  • Ongoing actions, which started in the past and are still happening now, example: “We have been studying French for two years”.
  • Duration of an action, emphasizing the process. For example: “I have been working on this project all day”.
  • Temporary situations, for example: “She have been using my car because her is in the shop”.
  • It is not used with stative verbs, like “know”, “believe”, “own”.
  • The difference between present perfect and present perfect continuous is focused on the completion of an action instead of the second one is focused on the duration or process. Example, “she has finished her assignment.” (Focus on the completion, present perfect)

Present Perfect Continuous
