Reported Speech

It is a way of conveying what someone said without using their exact words.

  • Includes a reporting verb like “said”, “told” or “asked”.
  • Pronouns need to be changes, for example “I” becomes “he”, “she”, “they” .
  • The verb tense in reported speech is back one step in the past, example: “I am going” becomes “he said he was going”
  • Words indicating time and place may need to be adjusted, for example “today” becomes “that day”.

Es una forma de transmitir lo que alguien dijo sin usar sus palabras exactas.

  • Incluye un verbo indirecto como «dijo», «dijo» o “preguntó».
  • Los pronombres deben cambiarse; por ejemplo, «yo» se convierte en «él», «ella», “ellos».
  • El tiempo verbal en el estilo indirecto retrocede un paso en el pasado; por ejemplo, «yo voy» se convierte en «él dijo que iba”.

“I will be in Paris on Sunday”, she said

Present conditional

She said that she would be in Paris on Sunday

Future continuous

He said, “I will be working next Tuesday”
Él dijo, “Estaré trabajando el próximo martes”

Conditional continuous
